Kurdish Civil Society: We Call for Escalating Peaceful Struggle in the Face of Massacres
A Call for Organized Kurdish Mobilization in Defense of Kobani, Hasakah, and the Dignity of Civilians
A Call for Organized Kurdish Mobilization in Defense of Kobani, Hasakah, and the Dignity of Civilians
Today, we demand—loudly and clearly—an escalation of organized peaceful struggle, and a doubling of the pace of demonstrations and sit-ins across all Western countries, as a direct response to the barbaric attack launched by the extremist Jolani government against Kurdish regions. These attacks have been accompanied by documented massacres against Kurdish civilians, attempts to occupy the areas of Kobani and Hasakah, and bloody crimes and violations committed against Kurds in Raqqa and other regions.
In this context, we affirm that the Kobani region is currently under a suffocating siege, as mercenary groups affiliated with the Jolani government escalate their military assaults and impose a policy of collective punishment by cutting electricity and water off from the civilian population, in a clear attempt to break the will of the city, starve its people, and subjugate them by force. This siege is not a transient military measure; it is a crime in all its elements and a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, exposing the true nature of the extremist project that targets Kurdish existence—land, people, and identity.
These popular mobilizations do not arise from a vacuum; they are a moral and political outcry against an extremist authority that reproduces violence and terrorism under the guise of governance, and seeks to impose a new reality through force and bloodshed. Despite the gravity of these crimes, peacefulness remains our strategic choice, not as neutrality, but as the most powerful and effective form of civil resistance in confronting massacres and policies of siege and occupation.
We call for full compliance with the laws of the countries in which we are active, and for maintaining a high standard of demonstrations and mobilizations in terms of organization, discipline, and responsible discourse—ensuring the continuity of the movement and strengthening its credibility before Western public opinion, human rights institutions, and the media. Respect for the law does not contradict legitimate anger; rather, it transforms it into an effective and influential pressure force.
Within this framework, Kurdish civil society affirms its active participation and its daily, continuous organization across all Western cities, through coordinating efforts, unifying slogans, intensifying presence in public squares, and building broad alliances with democratic forces and human rights organizations. This daily presence is an act of civil resistance and a clear message that the blood of Kurdish civilians and the siege of their cities will not be forgotten, and that crimes will not pass without accountability.
We hold the international community accountable for its moral and legal responsibilities, and we demand the immediate lifting of the siege on Kobani, an end to the aggression against all Kurdish regions, the opening of independent international investigations into the massacres and violations committed, and the accountability of those responsible. We will continue our peaceful struggle—with determination, awareness, and organization—until justice is achieved, the dignity of our people is safeguarded, and Kurdish existence is protected from policies of extermination, siege, and occupation.
